Will Compton is an American saxophonist, composer, and producer based in Atlanta, Georgia. His music blends the soulful energy of contemporary jazz and R&B with the texture and innovation of modern electronic production.
Born on February 17, 1986, Compton discovered his love for music as a child, digging through his parents’ vinyl records — spinning albums by Stevie Wonder, The Isley Brothers, and The Blues Brothers. At age nine, a saxophone solo on a NewSong record struck him so deeply that he immediately begged his parents for lessons, setting him on a lifelong path with the instrument.
A standout performer throughout his school years, Compton earned top placements in All-State concert and jazz bands before earning a scholarship to Berklee College of Music. While in Boston, he studied with Walter Beasley and Dino Govoni, performed in legendary venues like Wally’s and Scullers, and practiced relentlessly to refine his sound.
After moving to Atlanta in 2008, Compton became one of the city’s most in-demand saxophonists, performing internationally with top bands and artists including Tony Rich, Angie Stone, Ann Nesby, and Benzino. His live credits include opening for Charlie Wilson at BayFest and appearing in the Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta series.
In recent years, Compton has focused on writing and producing original music that merges his soulful saxophone sound with electronic production. His singles Sovereign (2022) and Note of Levity (2024) introduced this fresh direction — the latter reaching #11 on the Radio Airplay Experts Smooth Jazz Chart. His upcoming album States of Sovereign expands on that vision, uniting emotion, groove, and sonic innovation.
Inspired deeply by life an career of the late saxophonist David Sanborn, Compton aims to bring that same emotional intensity and physical connection to every performance. With States of Sovereign on the horizon and a growing list of live shows, Will Compton continues to carve out his own space in the evolving world of contemporary jazz.
